Community
Community is part of the school vision because it defines so many 'groups' within our school. It is important to us because we care, and it is important that people care for and about each other. We feel it is important that children learn this and consider how it links to school, locally, nationally and globally. Our classes are communities in their own right. Our school is a community and sits within the community of Kings Heath. Our families are also an important part of our wider community. Our different types of communities are interlinked and interact in many ways and on many different levels. Of course, our community extends further afield into Birmingham and beyond... But community starts at 'home'.
We promote caring within the school community, teach respect, celebrate differences, different communities. We teach the children their rights, how to be safe and what is right and wrong. The children wear school uniform to give them a sense of belonging, a togetherness. Staff take pride in caring for the children, staff have continuous training to help them care for the children. Within the wider community: children are taking part in sign language events for charity, elderly residents invited to Christmas nativities. Within our parental community: involvement in children’s activities i.e Inspire workshops, assemblies, AFA's - all sorts.
We are working towards a common goal through the vision which increases our sense of community and belonging. We are working with all stakeholders and trying to allow them opportunities to invest in and develop a community we can all be part of and feel valued within.
We are trying to reach out to our local community by forging links with them as well as venturing out into our community more either to use it as a resource for learning or just to learn more about it and what it holds for us.
We want to continue, strengthen and expand - go global
