Admission Criteria

At Wheelers Lane Primary School, we follow the Local Authority admissions criteria for all year groups including Nursery.

The following criteria are used to allocate places for any new children to our school:

1. Looked after or previously looked after children.

2. Siblings; brother or sister who will still be in attendance when the child starts.

3. Distance (children who live nearest the school measured in a straight line).

Distances are calculated on the basis of a straight line measurement between the applicant’s home address and the centre of the school site.

In Year Admissions

Our school manages the allocation of places for Nursery and Years 1 to 6 at any point during the school year.

To apply for an in-year place in any year group, parents and carers should apply directly to the school bringing their child’s full birth certificate and proof of current address that is less than 3 months old.

Places will be offered according to the Local Authority criteria as listed above.

Where there are no vacant places, children are placed on the waiting list and parents or carers will be contacted if a place becomes available.

We will contact you annually if your child is still on the waiting list to find out whether you would like him/her to remain on the list or be removed.

Admissions to ReceptionThe Local Authority manages the allocation of places for children starting Reception at the beginning of the school year.   Attendance at our school Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in our Reception; an application needs to be completed online:

Secondary School Transfers

The Local Authority manages the allocation of places for children in Year 6 transferring to Secondary School.  Applications are completed online

Appeals

Parents and carers have the right to appeal should a place in our school not be offered.  This can be done by contacting Admissions and Appeals at the Local Authority on 0121 303
