Summer 2- Week 1

Welcome back to all of our lovely Year 5 children. We hope that you had a lovely half term and are ready to work hard for the final 7 weeks of this school year!

In English this week, we began reading "The boy in the striped pyjamas." The teachers absolutely love this book and are hoping that the children do too over the coming weeks. This week, we got to know the main character, Bruno. We found out that Bruno had to move house from Berlin to a place called "Out- With' due to his father's job. We wrote letters home from Bruno's perspective as we suspected that he would miss his friends and family back in Berlin very much.

In Maths, we recapped our knowledge of perimeter and area and applied this to composite shapes. We used this to create our own dinosaur enclosures ; we had a lot of fun trying to place the T-Rex as he needed an enclosure that compromised of an equal area and perimeter.

We also celebrated the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. We are finding our "Blitz and pieces" such an interesting topic and the children really can't wait to visit the Severn Valley Railway to learn more about World War Two. Please make sure that you have checked Parent Mail to consent to your child taking part in this trip!
