Summer 1 - Week 1
Welcome back to Year 5! We are already in our last term of Year 5 and have so many exciting things to look forward to. We will be visiting the Severn Valley Railway, voting for our new house captains and creating elastic racers in a fun science day. Check out all of the relevant dates on our school newsletter.
This week, we have introduced our new topic "Blitz and Pieces" topic. Please check Parent Mail for our summer term curriculum newsletter. During this topic, we will be looking at World War 2. On Monday, we listened to Neville Chamberlain's speech announcing war. We then took on the roles of Foreign Secretary, Education Secretary and Defence Secretary and constructed our own speeches explaining to the citizens of the UK how to cope with this announcement.
We also showed off our fabulous homework from spring in our homework showcase. Well done everyone for making such a fantastic effort!
In English, we have started to look at poetry. We started off by looking at a crime scene from the Highwayman.
In Maths, we have started our measure topic. It would be helpful for children to practise multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 using place value (not column multiplication!) as this is a key skill for this topic.
