Visit to the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham
On Thursday the 23rd of March, School Council along with Mrs Laffey, Mrs Richmond and two parent volunteers, went along to visit the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham. We were all extremely excited as we went along to gain more knowledge about looking after and caring for tropical fish for our aquarium, which we hope to buy and set up after Easter. When we got there, we were greeted by our tour guide, who took us all on a discovery tour, which was a 45 minute tour of the aquarium led by a marine expert. The tour was tailored around us all wanting more knowledge about tropical fish and whether/ not we would be able to successfully look after them, here at WLPS. Sophie was our note taker, who jotted down any answers to questions about tropical fish, that any of the other children asked the tour guide about.
Once the tour was over we were able to walk around at our own pace, heading back to the rock pool where under the guidance of a sea life expert we were all able to touch a star fish/crab, and then go back over to the underwater tunnel, where the sea turtle and sharks were. We paid particular attention to the colony of Gentoo penguin’s at the start of the tour, watching them play and splash around behind the freezing cold screen. Secretly we all wanted to take one back to school and have one as a school pet, however the tour guide informed us all that we would not have cold enough conditions to do so. As a School Council, we now feel well informed to make the right choices and decisions, about which fish we are going to buy for our aquarium.
