Exploring Numbers

In year 1 we have enjoyed exploring numbers in lots of different ways.

Marvellous Me!

We are now well into our new Marvellous Me topic and we have already learnt so much about ourselves and each other!

We are all feeling very grown up writing in our new English, Maths and Topic books and are working hard to form letters and numbers in these correctly. We have started going to our set groups for Phonics and we are all trying very hard to sound out words when reading and writing! In Maths, we have been learning how to sort objects, count in different ways, fill in missing numbers on a number track and find one more/less than a given number.

In Science, we have been learning all about our senses and getting very messy!! We made slime using cornflour and water and discussed how it changed form from a solid into a liquid. We described how it felt using words such as 'slimy', 'gooey' and 'squishy'. We also learnt about the different parts of the body by making play-dough bodies and labelling the basic parts!

In Art, we have been busy creating our self-portraits using a variety of media and mirrors. For example, we have collaged, painted and used sketching pencils to create our faces!

Our teachers have been very impressed with how we are settling into our new Year One classes and are looking forward to meeting parents at the Parent Evenings this week (4th/5th October)!

Reminders

  • Please remind your child  to bring in their homework before Friday so that it can be changed.
  • Please remind your child to bring in their reading book and yellow diary on the day they have it changed (This can be found on the inside of their yellow diary).

Welcome Year 1 !

Welcome back everyone! What an exciting start to the new school year it has been! We have spent the week meeting all of our new teachers and teaching assistants and now we are really starting to get used to all of the new faces. We had so much fun exploring our new classroom environments - some of the things are the same as in Reception but some things are brand new. Next week, we are going to be starting our lessons and we will be learning so much that our heads will be so full up by the end of the week. We can't wait!
