For those of you who like a challenge, here is the holiday homework for year 1!

Learning all about MATERIALS!

We have had a look at the materials all around us including-

wood, metal, plastic, fabric and glass

For our WOW starter in Science we made slime to explore!

Together we developed our understanding of what a liquid and a solid material is by making and experimenting with our homemade slime!

Prodding the slime with our fingers it felt like a solid but we could also pour it like a liquid.

Some children went on a 'MATERIALS HUNT' around the school and recorded all the different types of materials found.

Pirate Stories

Over the last two weeks we have enjoyed looking at a variety of pirate stories. We have looked at Pirate Pete, The Pirate Cruncher, The Pirates Next Door and The Night Pirates. We have been extending our sentences by using the conjunctions 'and' and 'because' and we came up with some interesting adjectives to describe the characters and settings. We became authors and used our own imaginations to plan and create our own pirate stories! We are now really looking forward to meeting a real author in our Creative Writing week coming up on the 13th February.

Pirate Ron came to see us

Well, what a great day we had on Thursday! Pirate Ron came to see us and he spent the day helping us to learn all about pirates. We listened so well whilst he told us about the pirate ship and pirate treasure. We watched a pirate puppet show and learned about the jobs pirates had to do on the ship, the kind of food they ate and how they got their money. They were baddies and stole money, jewels and food from other ships!

In the afternoon we made some fantastic puppets of our own.

Positions and turns.

This week in Maths we have been learning positional language, such as above below, under and over, left and right.

We have also been learning how to make clockwise and anti-clockwise turns.

Here is some of our brilliant work!
